High Schooler to Bachmann: Let's Debate History

Sounds to me like this kid should be the one seeking election. Never mind the Dumbo challenge, just read how the girl writes with dignity, as exhibited in the second paragraph.

Oh! and by the way, my dog could beat Michele Bachmann in a grey cells confrontation.

Ain't that so Gromit?

High Schooler to Bachmann: Let's Debate History
Teen calls her grasp of civics 'grossly distorted'

Concerned that Michele Bachmann’s take on US civics is “factually incorrect, inaccurately applied or grossly distorted,” a New Jersey teen has challenged the Minnesota representative to a debate on US history and the Constitution, the Minnesota Independent reports. “The frequent inability you have shown to accurately and factually present even the most basic information about the United States” inspired the challenge, which pits “my public education against your advanced legal education,” writes high school sophomore Amy Myers in a letter to Bachmann.

Myers also thinks that Bachmann isn't much of a role model. “As one of a handful of women in Congress, you hold a distinct privilege and responsibility to better represent your gender nationally,” she writes. “Though politically expedient, incorrect comments cast a shadow on your person and by unfortunate proxy, both your supporters and detractors alike often generalize this shadow to women as a whole.” Click to read about one of Bachmann's history mistakes. The Stir rounds up other iffy statements. The Newser

One of the Congresswoman's gaffes and Myers' chance.

Campaigning in Iowa, Bachmann recast the men who drafted the U.S. Constitution as folks who "worked tirelessly until slavery was no more in the United States." The truth: Many of our forefathers, including George Washington and Thomas Jefferson (who wrote all men are created equal) OWNED slaves, and many of these men were dead by the time the Emancipation Proclamation was actually penned in 1863. (It's America, I'd imagine Myers took a U.S. history course.)
